Skincare layering can sound complicated, but the basic logic is simple: go from lightest to heaviest, and finish with protection. Getting the order roughly right helps each product do its job without fighting the others.
Step one is cleansing. Use a gentle cleanser suited to your skin type to remove sweat, oil and old products. On days with heavy makeup, a two-step cleanse (oil-based remover then face wash) may work better.
Next come your water-based layers: toners, essences or light serums. These usually contain active ingredients like hydrating agents or brightening components and are designed to sink in quickly.
Then apply thicker treatments and moisturisers. Creams and lotions lock in the lighter products and keep skin comfortable. In the daytime, always finish with sunscreen as the final step, over moisturiser. Sunscreen should be on top so it can form an even protective layer.
You don’t need every step every day. A basic routine can be: cleanser → serum (optional) → moisturiser → sunscreen. The main rule is consistency. A few products used correctly beat a shelf full of items used randomly.
